KS & CO - Day 7

Continuing the Journey: From Kansas to Colorado 🏍️🌾

The afternoon ride through Kansas along US 50 tested my endurance in the state's challenging conditions. With temperatures hovering in the low 90s, the blazing sun, straight-as-an-arrow roads, and the unmistakable aroma of cow pastures made for some of the most physically and mentally taxing riding I've ever experienced. Riding in Kansas was far from joyful.

I made a stop in Dodge City to assess if it was worth staying the night there. While I didn't find much of interest (except for a picture of the old town), I decided to press on towards Lamar, Colorado, where I could finally rest for the night.

Crossing the state border into Colorado was a revelation. The transition from Kansas to Colorado was starkly beautiful and spectacular. It seemed as though a very discerning hand had drawn the line between these two states. In Colorado, the landscape burst with color, the winds calmed, and the road seemed to come alive beneath my wheels.

In total, I powered through 325 miles to reach the Colorado border, eager to leave behind the challenges of riding in Kansas. 🚀🏞️

Wind mills make sense in Kansas.  Unfortunately, it was most entertaining part of riding through KS.

Dodge City's old town didn't have enough attentions to keep my interest.  So I got the hell out of Dodge and rode toward Colorado.

In the first rest stop after the crossing the Colorado border, the landscape suddenly had color, the winds died down, and my spirits lifted.

Froggie and Lizzie join me in the blissfulness of leaving KS.
